Description
An outstanding opportunity has opened up for a private client solicitor who wants to build something long term, not just take the next job on the ladder. One of Scotland’s most highly regarded law firms, consistently recognised at the very top of the market, is expanding its Private Client team and is open to appointing in either Edinburgh or Glasgow.
This is a role that offers real depth and variety. The team works with a broad and often fascinating client base, advising individuals, families, trustees and business owners on everything from succession planning and executries to trusts, tax planning and powers of attorney. Alongside the core work, there is regular exposure to more complex and sensitive matters, including cross-border estates and family business considerations. You’ll work closely with senior lawyers who are leaders in this space, while also being encouraged to develop your own client relationships and professional profile.
What really distinguishes this firm is how deliberately it invests in its people. Career progression is not left to chance; it’s structured, transparent and actively supported. Whether your ambition is to deepen your technical expertise, take ownership of more complex files or progress towards senior associate and beyond, you’ll be given the guidance, trust and opportunity to do so.
The firm has also taken a refreshingly progressive approach to sustainability and wellbeing. Billable targets have been thoughtfully reduced in recent years, creating an environment where lawyers can focus on quality, client care and sound judgement without constant pressure. The private client team in particular benefits from this, making it a genuinely rewarding and balanced place to practise.
The ideal candidate will have around two years’ PQE or more in private client work, with experience across areas such as wills, executries, trusts and tax planning. You’ll be empathetic, clear in your communication and confident dealing with clients at important moments in their lives. STEP membership is welcomed and supported, but it’s not a prerequisite.
In return, you’ll be joining a firm known for its warmth, professionalism and collaborative culture. Hybrid working is well embedded, flexibility is respected, and the emphasis is firmly on long-term careers rather than short-term output.
If you’re a private client solicitor looking for a role that combines high-quality work, genuine support and a clear future, this is well worth exploring. For a confidential conversation, contact Neil Campbell at QED Legal using the details provided.
