12–18 month FTC | Full-time
 Bristol (hybrid working)

We’re working with a leading UK law firm to recruit an experienced Compliance Team Manager to lead a well-established business acceptance and conflicts function. This is a great role with genuine responsibility, managing a sizeable team and working closely with senior stakeholders across the firm.

As Compliance Manager, you’ll take ownership of a central compliance function responsible for client and matter onboarding, conflicts clearance, AML and financial crime controls, and ongoing monitoring.

You’ll act as the senior escalation point for complex or sensitive issues, while also playing a key role in strengthening compliance culture across the firm.

The Role?

  • Lead, manage and develop a multi-layered compliance team, including team leaders and analysts
  • Oversee workflows, resourcing, quality and turnaround times in a high-volume environment
  • Act as escalation point for complex conflicts, AML, CDD, source of funds/wealth and sanctions matters
  • Provide pragmatic, risk-based advice to partners and fee earners
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks and professional conduct rules
  • Drive continuous improvement of policies, procedures and operational processes
  • Support firm-wide AML and financial crime risk assessments
  • Contribute to system reviews and enhancements to improve compliance controls
  • Develop and deliver training for both the compliance team and the wider firm
  • Produce clear, meaningful MI and reporting for senior management and governance forums
  • Work closely with senior risk, compliance and business stakeholders on projects and change initiatives

About You?

You’ll bring a strong background in legal compliance, with strong knowledge in conflicts and AML within a law firm environment.

  • Significant experience handling legal conflicts and AML/CDD matters
  • Proven people management experience, including mentoring and performance management
  • Strong technical understanding of UK legal regulatory requirements relating to conflicts and AML
  • Confident communicator, able to influence and challenge at partner level
  • Commercially aware with a pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset
  • Experience delivering change, process improvement or operational enhancements
  • Highly organised, detail-focused and comfortable managing competing priorities

What's in it for you?

  • Opportunity to lead a large, established compliance team
  • High visibility role with senior stakeholder exposure
  • Genuine scope to influence processes, systems and culture
  • Flexible and hybrid working environment (2 days in office)
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
  • Opportunity to work with industry leaders
