Solicitor Team Leader | Contested RTA & Personal Injury | Newcastle
Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience

If you're an experienced Personal Injury Solicitor who is ready to take a step into team leadership without moving away from the legal work, this could be an interesting opportunity.

An established North East legal business is looking to appoint a Solicitor Team Leader within its Contested Litigation / Personal Injury team.

The role sits somewhere between technical legal oversight and people management. You'll work alongside the Principal Solicitor to ensure the team is performing effectively, while also having responsibility for supervising fee earners and authorising key elements of litigation.

The underlying work is predominantly RTA-related contested litigation, so you'll need a strong understanding of liability, factual causation and the procedural rules that govern these claims.

That includes experience with:

• RTA liability and factual causation
• Credit Hire and Vehicle Damage claims
• Pre-Action Protocols
• Part 7 and Part 8 proceedings
• Relevant Civil Procedure Rules and Practice Directions
• Conducting and progressing contested litigation
• Authorising key elements of litigation undertaken by more junior fee earners

Alongside the technical side, you'll be responsible for helping the team deliver against its financial and performance objectives.

You'll work with individual fee earners to identify development needs, provide support and guidance, and help create a team environment where people are accountable for their performance but also properly supported in achieving it.

So, this isn't simply a Senior Solicitor role with a slightly different title.

You'll have genuine responsibility for:

• Day-to-day supervision of team members
• Supporting the Principal Solicitor with implementation of litigation strategy
• Monitoring individual and team performance
• Identifying and addressing development needs
• Supporting fee earners in achieving financial and operational targets
• Liaising with other solicitors, Team Leaders and senior management
• Providing technical oversight and authority on appropriate litigation decisions
• Helping develop and motivate the wider team

You'll ideally be a qualified Solicitor with solid RTA / Personal Injury litigation experience, alongside some previous experience of supervising, mentoring or leading people within a commercial environment.

You’ll need to be comfortable with the commercial side of a high-volume litigation environment and understand that performance, quality and client service all need to work together.
