Description
Senior Associate/Director | Leadership | Gloucestershire | Top Regional Firm | Private Family Law
Having personally recruited two solicitors into this team over the last 6 months, I'm excited to present a senior position at a leading regional law firm based in Cheltenham, to help drive forward one of the most highly regarded family law teams in Gloucestershire. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior lawyer with a passion for private family work to step into a leadership role within a well-structured, expanding department.
The firm, with roots dating back over 40 years, now employs over 55 legal and support staff across multiple disciplines. It has reported steady financial growth, with turnover exceeding £4 million in the last financial year. The Family department is a cornerstone of the business, consistently performing as one of the firm's top revenue generators.
The Family team itself is one of the largest dedicated family law units in the county, currently made up of nine lawyers, ranging from Partners to junior solicitors, alongside dedicated paralegal and administrative support. The team is split across private client family work and legal aid, with a clear division of caseloads. This role sits within the private client arm, which focuses on Divorce, Financial Remedy, Private Children Act matters, Post-Nuptial Agreements, and Cohabitation Disputes.
You’ll manage a diverse caseload of complex private family matters (circa £300k) while playing a key role in mentoring junior lawyers and supporting strategic business development. Ideally, you will have at least eight years’ PQE and be able to demonstrate strong technical skills, a commercial mindset, and a collaborative approach to leadership. A following is also favourable, but not essential.
The firm’s culture places a genuine emphasis on people, both staff and clients. Alongside a competitive salary starting from £60,000 (depending on experience), the benefits package includes 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme, private medical insurance, income protection, and access to an employee assistance programme supported by trained mental health first aiders.
Staff enjoy a vibrant and inclusive environment, where regular social events are part of the rhythm of firm life, from book clubs and after-work drinks to themed competitions and seasonal celebrations. Colleagues also get together for charitable initiatives throughout the year, supporting an elected annual Charity of the Year through activities such as bake sales, sponsored events, quizzes, and more.
