Description
Head of Banking & Finance Litigation / Property Litigation
Banking & Finance Litigation | Property Receivership | Insolvency | Build & Lead a New Department
Millions of pounds worth of work, no following required
Salary: Circa £100,000 DOE + Bespoke Bonus Package
The Opportunity:
This is a genuinely rare opportunity for an experienced Banking & Finance Litigation Solicitor or Property Litigation Solicitor to establish and lead a brand-new department within a boutique law firm backed by an exceptionally strong and consistent source of work.
Unlike most Head of Department opportunities, this role does not rely on you bringing a following or generating business. Instead, you will inherit access to a substantial volume of lender-based litigation work that is currently outsourced to external firms. The volume is already there—the firm simply needs the right person to build an in-house team capable of delivering it.
If you've reached a stage in your career where you're looking for autonomy, the opportunity to shape a department in your own vision, and the security of guaranteed work from day one, this is an opportunity that is difficult to replicate.
About the Firm:
This boutique practice has deliberately remained lean, selective and highly specialised. The legal practice is owned by a successful debt recovery business responsible for recovering millions of pounds in property and banking finance matters every year.
Rather than competing for work in an already crowded market, the firm benefits from an existing pipeline of lender instructions generated by its parent business. A significant proportion of this work is currently outsourced, creating an immediate opportunity for a senior lawyer to bring these matters in-house and build a dedicated litigation team around them.
With just five people currently in the firm, you'll join at an exciting stage of growth while benefiting from an unusually low-risk platform for expansion.
The Work:
You'll take ownership of a varied and technically interesting caseload acting primarily for lenders and financial institutions, including:
Banking and finance litigation
Property receivership matters
Distressed property litigation
Mortgage enforcement
Possession proceedings
Finance litigation
Business insolvency
Corporate disputes
Statutory demands
Recovery and enforcement litigation
Complex lender-based disputes
This is high-quality, specialist work within a niche area of the market, offering genuine variety and long-term stability.
The Role:
This position is about far more than managing files.
You'll have the freedom to:
Build and lead an entirely new Banking & Finance / Property Litigation department
Design processes, systems and workflows that suit your style
Recruit and mentor your own team as the department grows
Shape the strategic direction of the practice area
Work closely with the firm's leadership on future expansion
Importantly, there is no expectation to undertake business development or bring a client following. Your focus will be on delivering excellent legal work and building a successful department from an already established workflow.
About You:
Applications are welcomed from senior solicitors or legal executives with substantial experience in one or more of the following:
Banking & Finance Litigation
Property Litigation
Property Receivership
Insolvency Litigation
Lender Services
Mortgage Enforcement
Recovery & Enforcement
You may already be a Head of Department, Partner, Legal Director or Senior Associate looking for the next step, or an ambitious senior lawyer seeking the autonomy to create something of your own without the financial risk that usually comes with building a new practice.
Salary & Benefits:
Circa £100,000 salary (negotiable depending on experience)
Highly competitive and imaginative bonus structure tailored to the successful candidate
Opportunity to build and lead your own department
Genuine autonomy with strategic input
Immediate access to a substantial pipeline of quality work
No requirement for business development
Long-term career progression with Partnership potential
Modern, entrepreneurial and supportive working environment
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced litigation lawyer who wants the freedom of building something from the ground up, backed by the security of an established and highly profitable source of work. Opportunities offering this combination of autonomy, guaranteed workflow and long-term growth are exceptionally rare.
