The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Law Costs Draftsperson to join the Family Department based in Nottingham. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling all aspects of Legal Aid billing and cost recovery, supporting the firm’s busy and high-performing team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Drafting and submitting Legal Aid bills, including legal helps, payments on account, and final bills
• Confident use of CCMS and understanding of Legal Aid Agency systems
• Preparing and negotiating high cost case plans
• Managing cost recovery processes including appeals
• Working closely with fee earners to ensure accurate and timely billing
• Ensuring compliance with Legal Aid KPIs, rules, and internal billing systems
• Experience with CostMaster and digital case management systems preferred

You
This position would suit a skilled and confident legal costs professional with experience in Legal Aid billing and cost management.

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong experience in drafting all types of bills and costs
• Confident negotiation abilities
• Good understanding of the assessment and recovery of solicitors’ costs
• Working knowledge of basic accounting principles
• Proficiency in digital billing tools and case management systems
