Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Credit Controller & Biller to join a busy and well-established legal practice. This is a dual-role position ideal for someone with at least three years’ experience in a legal finance environment who enjoys variety, responsibility and working closely with fee earners and senior stakeholders.

In this role, you will take ownership of the credit control function, proactively managing aged debt, reviewing daily alerts, issuing reminder correspondence and escalating matters where required. You will work closely with Heads of Department, maintain accurate records on the case management system, monitor unallocated cash and client credit balances, and run key monthly reports including aged debt and WIP. Where necessary, you will also assist with MCOL proceedings and liaise with the Head of Dispute Resolution on more complex cases.

Alongside this, you will be responsible for private client billing, ensuring bills are raised promptly and accurately in line with SRA Accounts Rules. You’ll prepare and issue clear, detailed invoices, ensure WIP and disbursements are correctly allocated, and monitor matters where client funds are held on account. You’ll work closely with fee earners to trigger timely billing, liaise professionally with Chambers and experts, and respond confidently to client invoice queries.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of legal accounting, be comfortable reading client ledger reports, and have prior experience as a credit controller within a law firm. You’ll be confident, proactive and organised, with excellent communication skills and strong Word, Outlook and Excel capabilities. A minimum of A-level standard education is required, and any knowledge of SARs would be an advantage.

This vacancy is being managed by Jill McCartney. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, hands-on role where you can make a real impact on cash flow and billing efficiency, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and professional legal team.
