What do In House Lawyers do?

There are more than 34,000 in-house solicitors working in more than 6,000 organisations across England and Wales in a wide range of industries and public bodies. These range from multi-national corporations and government departments to high-street businesses, charities, educational establishments and local health authorities. But why are 25% of qualified Lawyers in the UK working in house and what exactly do they do?

As an in-house lawyer, your primary role is to provide legal advice to your company, supporting its growth and business strategy. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards, managing legal risks, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency within legal boundaries.

You help strengthen the company’s risk management by evaluating legal risks alongside financial risks, contributing to a more comprehensive business strategy that boosts efficiency and profitability.

You will serve as trusted advisers to senior management and work across a broad range of legal disciplines, from contracts and agreements to employment law, corporate law and intellectual property.

As the cliché goes, no 2 days are the same working in house, so it is essential that you have commercial awareness, are able to problem solve, multi-task and communicate effectively.
