Description

New: Commercial Associate, NQ-4 PQE, £69k-£80k, International Law Firm, Manchester

This is a role in the Manchester office of an international law firm’s commercial team. The team is growing and works closely with colleagues across the firm’s other UK offices and its overseas network, so the work isn’t confined to the North West. Partners are hands-on, and associates work directly alongside them on substantial matters.

What sets the role apart is the AI side. The partner who heads the team also leads the firm’s wider innovation and generative AI work. You’ll use AI tools on live client matters, and you’ll be involved in designing the processes and delivery models the firm offers its clients. Few commercial roles at this level give associates a real say in how legal services are delivered.

The work is broad. It includes drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, supporting major outsourcing, supply chain and strategic projects, and handling the day-to-day commercial queries that build lasting client relationships. The client base takes in well-known names and major public and private sector organisations across retail, manufacturing, sport, technology, energy, hospitality, education and industrial markets.

The team also works closely with the corporate team on technology and AI-led transactions. That gives you exposure to a wider range of deals and specialists than a standalone commercial practice could offer.

You’ll get early responsibility and regular client contact, backed by structured training and partner-led development programmes. There’s also scope to develop a sector specialism over time, in line with the firm’s international focus areas. The team places weight on collaboration across offices, flexibility and personal development.

Applications are welcome from newly qualified lawyers through to those with four years’ PQE. Experience in a well-regarded commercial practice will help, but the firm is just as interested in curiosity and potential.
