Legal Assistant – Family Law & Domestic Abuse

Are you an organised and proactive Legal Assistant looking to develop your career within a highly respected Family Law team?
We are seeking a Legal Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative and legal support within a busy Private Law Children and Domestic Abuse practice. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive team, working on both privately funded and Legal Aid matters.
The Role
You will play a key role in supporting fee earners and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the department. The successful candidate will provide exceptional client service while assisting with a broad range of legal and administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Legal Support
- Manage a varied administrative workload under the guidance of fee earners.
- Undertake daily audio typing and transcription of letters, emails, attendance notes and legal documents.
- Draft correspondence, legal documents and bills using approved templates and precedents.
- Assist with case progression through online portals and court processes.
- Liaise with clients, courts, experts, agents, referrers and other legal professionals.
- Arrange meetings, appointments and funding applications.
- Support file opening procedures and maintain accurate case records.
- Provide a professional and responsive service to clients at all times.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage telephone enquiries, email correspondence and incoming post.
- Maintain electronic and paper filing systems.
- Assist with document production, archiving and document management.
- Update and maintain client information within the firm's CRM system.
- Coordinate meetings, training sessions and team activities.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, confidentiality requirements and data protection regulations.
- Assist with anti-money laundering procedures and file audits.
- Support adherence to Legal Aid and other regulatory requirements.
Business Support
- Assist with business development and marketing activities.
- Prepare presentation materials and supporting documentation.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and third-party contacts.
- Contribute ideas for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other IT systems.
- Strong client care and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a Legal Assistant or administrative role.
- Experience within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Audio typing experience.
- Knowledge of Family Law, Private Children matters, Domestic Abuse cases or Legal Aid processes.
