Description

Partner Opportunity – Contentious Construction (Newcastle) Location: Newcastle
Role Level: Partner (would also consider Legal Director-level candidates ready to step up)

The Opportunity A highly regarded regional law firm with ambitious growth plans is seeking to appoint a Contentious Construction Partner to establish and lead its disputes offering within the construction team.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a practice area from the ground up with the backing of a strong, established non-contentious construction team.

About the Role

  • Lead and grow the contentious construction function, working alongside an experienced associate.
  • Manage a steady pipeline of disputes work already coming into the firm.
  • Full autonomy to develop the practice and shape its future growth.
  • Opportunity to recruit and build a team.
  • Mix of work includes disputes for developers, contractors, and housebuilders, alongside public sector-related instructions.
  • Work closely with the existing disputes partner

Candidate Profile We are looking for a senior construction disputes lawyer who:

  • Has strong experience in contentious construction matters.
  • Is entrepreneurial and keen to grow their own part of the practice.
  • Has a network in the market and the ability to build client relationships.
  • Brings a collaborative approach and would thrive in a collegiate, supportive culture.
  • Portable following is not essential, but the ability to develop new work will be important over time.

Why This Role? This firm offers the platform to make a real impact while maintaining a healthy work/life balance:

  • Clear trajectory for career progression
  • Supportive culture – not driven by unrealistic billing targets
  • Discretionary partner bonus, plus profit share.
  • Flexibility around billing and recovery expectations.
  • Parking provided.
  • Genuinely collaborative environment – described by partners as a “nice place to work” without late-night desk culture.

The Firm

  • Well-established and ambitious regional firm with continuous growth plans across the North.
  • Strong reputation in the market as a trusted, reliable choice with deep regional roots.
  • Significant investment in the construction team, identified as a key growth area for the future.
